Socks and sandals. Forget the image of retired hippies in NorCal that this combination conjures. When done with the right sandals (i.e. non-orthopedic) and the right socks (i.e. not the kind you get in a bargain pack), this pairing is as fashion forward as it is functional.
And if you’re going to go for it, go for it. Sure, open toe sans bare toes may feel slightly unnatural at first, but it’s actually pretty simple to own the look if you gently incorporate it into your existing style. For example, don’t go for frilly lace socks if you’re a leather jacket and jeans kind of girl. Take a look below for some inspiration.
Start small with a little shimmer. Ease into the trend with some black anklet socks and an ankle-strap sandal like the Laddie. These get a little extra punch from some metallic gold thread, which dresses up a tee and casual cutoffs while adding a little edge to an outfit that may otherwise feel boring.
Play with patterns. Classic camouflage or abstract black and white lines create a cool backdrop for sport slides like the Xavier Hyperweave.
Pick your palette. Then mix and match prints. The Kari in White gets a pop from the blue painted edge, which perfectly complements these graphic eye-print socks and a blue denim jacket with star patches.
When it doubt, keep it simple. If you opt for a statement shirt like the one above, keep your feet from competing for attention. You can’t go wrong with some solid gray crew socks and the Xavier TF in a neutral hue.
